Take a look at Daniel’s career journey, and at the same time, discover the international opportunities Lumon has to offer.
If my uncle can do it, so can I
I started in January 2016 at Lumon Days in consumer multi-residential sales. I had no previous experience in sales, and this was my first time in a sales role. I received my enthusiasm and inspiraiton for sales from my uncle, who also worked at Lumon. I thought to myself: if he can do it, so can I. The decision to work for Lumon was one that I have not had to regret.
I worked in consumer sales for a year and a half, after which I transferred to assistant sales manager duties for a year. From there, I moved to Lahti, Finland to be a residential sales manager. After working in Lahti for a year, new opportunities arrived in the Helsinki metropolitan area, and I moved back to Helsinki to set up a new business unit in spring of 2022. In April of 2022, I conducted some training in Norway, and already in November of that year, I moved to Norway to develop our Norwegian business as an Area Manager.
In a sales role at Lumon, you can influence your own salary, and there is no cap for how much you are able to make. The motivation lies in the fact that you get what you earn. You have a lot of freedom, which also comes with a lot of responsibility. This means that you can influence your success holistically. I have to admit – at first, I was a bit apprehensive about the commission structure, because I had never worked on commission before. I am happy to say that it worked out for me much better than I had expected.
The biggest plus in sales work was the freedom to create your own schedule
The results of my sales work in my first year made me the best balcony glazing salesperson in Finland. I suspect that the reason for my success lay in the fact that I enjoyed my job very much and felt that sales was the right fit for me. The biggest plus was that I had so much freedom to create my own schedule. You could be efficient when I didn’t have to be watching the clock. The freedom allowed me to work better, and this structure suited me well.
The most rewarding thing about being a Sales Manager is watching the development of your salespeople, and how results are achieved through hard work. It’s amazing to see salespeople succeed and develop in a short period of time. As a Sales Manager, you have a role in sharing knowledge, and helping your team to succeed. You have a direct impact in creating a better working life for your team, and therefore a better experience for your customers.
If you want to work abroad, Lumon provides you the opportunity to do so
Working together is a strong value at Lumon, and this is reflected in my daily work. As operations develop, we take the best practices from each country, and share them with each other. Even though we work in different countries, the problems are similar, and solutions are always found together. You never have to be alone here; you can always call somebody. The salespeople here at Lumon in Norway have been truly Lumon –spirited, just like in Finland. It has been a good experience to come to work in Norway, and I have been able to integrate into the team quickly.
If you really want to work abroad, there are good opportunities for that here. You can truly tell that we are a global organization. Over the years, many have wanted to work abroad, and have also received the opportunity to do so. In many places, it seems that this is something that is talked about, but nothing really happens. Here, international opportunities are made concretely possible. Of course, this does not come without hard work and results.
My best memory at Lumon from over the years is receiving the salesperson of the year award in 2016, the same year when I started in sales.
My best memory of Lumon is receiving the salesperson of the year award in 2016.
Lumon has incredible opportunities for development. Around 10% of employees advance in their positions already within the first year. Here, responsibility and tasks are given to those who are deserving of it, and those who want it themselves. You are valued here, and the things which are important to you are always taken into account.
